In Fine+ condition, this hammered coin was produced at the Tower of London, the home of The Royal Mint between 1558 and 1603. A hammered coin required two dies, and the die featuring the obverse design had a spike in the base that could be placed in a block of wood. A fresh blank was placed on this, and the second die tool was hammered on top to impart both designs to the coin. This coin features the coronet mint mark to denote when and where this coin was struck.
