This £2 coin was issued in 2005 to commemorate 400 years since the gunpowder plot, when a failed assassination attempt on James I was made during the Opening of Parliament in 1605.

The reverse features a design by Peter Forster showing the traditional state symbols of a mace, crosier and sword. Arranged in a circular pattern suggestive of a Catherine Wheel, the items are surrounded by stars in a further reference to fireworks. The dates are rendered in an early seventeenth-century-style font. The edge inscription reads ‘REMEMBER REMEMBER THE FIFTH OF NOVEMBER’. The issue limit for this coin was 1,500, although only 914 were issued as individual coins.

The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Her Late Majesty The Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley.
