This 1820 year-dated Sovereign is struck in 22 carat gold and has been graded by NGC as MS62. Despite George III passing away early in 1820, his coinage portrait continued to be struck on coins of that year. George III was also the only monarch to feature on both official Sovereigns and guineas struck by The Royal Mint. The obverse of this Sovereign features the coinage portrait of George III. The reverse features the classic St George and the dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci that first appeared on The Sovereign in 1817.
