Each piece is a miniature masterpiece, telling the timeless story of Britain on the unique canvas of a coin. Candidate Process
Who are we looking for?
If you are an original thinker, with a passion for telling Britain’s stories, the ability to translate your ideas into 2D designs and want to work with us to develop your creativity, please get in touch and help us celebrate the best of British talent on official UK coins. The Royal Mint welcomes submissions from all resident artists in the UK with an active online professional portfolio (such as Instagram), although no previous coin design experience is needed.
What is the process for designing a UK coin?
Each year The Royal Mint commissions original new designs to commemorate key events, anniversaries and moments which made Britain. We invite independent artists, designers and creatives to respond to the briefs and the most relevant submission are presented to an independent panel called The Royal Mint Advisory Committee. The winning artist works with The Royal Mint's Product design team to turn their design into an official UK coin.
What we offer
Designing an official UK coin – personally approved by the Chancellor and Her Majesty the Queen – is an historic achievement. It can also open doors to flexible freelance opportunities and paid design briefs with support and coaching from The Royal Mint.
