A Celebratory Set with Six Fine Gold Coins
Historic Anniversaries in Britannia’s Evolving History
Britannia is a symbol of Britain’s own reinvention, with various incarnations throughout history and her origins rooted in Roman Britain. In 1987, in the spirit of this evolution, The Royal Mint introduced a new bullion coin to the international market. The coin was called Britannia, a powerful name that would instantly stand out and represent Britain overseas. Three decades later, as we mark the 30th anniversary of the gold Britannia coin, it is recognised across the world as a symbol of quality and beauty.
Louis Tamlyn, an art student at Central Saint Martins, has created a modern Britannia design for 2017 to mark 30 years of the gold Britannia coin. Each coin features a celebratory trident mint mark with the number 30 and radial lines. Struck in 999.9 fine gold and finished to Proof standard, this is the largest gold set in the range and contains: the Britannia 2017 One Ounce, Half-Ounce, Quarter-Ounce, Tenth-Ounce, Twentieth-Ounce and Fortieth-Ounce gold coins. This Limited Edition Presentation of 250 sets is accompanied by a booklet exploring Britannia’s history and the designer’s inspiration.
