The American Eagle is produced by the United States Mint and was first introduced in 1986. The 1 oz Silver Eagle coin is struck in 999 Ag Fine Silver and contains one troy ounce of silver.
The obverse design features a rendition of Augustus Saint-Gaudens' full-length figure of Lady Liberty with flowing hair, wearing an American flag with the sun rising behind her. The reverse design, features an Eagle and Shield, as created by John Mercanti. The reverse also features 13 stars representing the original colonies of America.
