The Yeoman Warders – Protectors of History and Tradition
Originally part of the royal bodyguard, Yeoman Warders, or ‘Beefeaters’ as they are more commonly known, first came to be stationed at the Tower of London under the orders of Henry VII.
Taking the same royal oath of allegiance today as they would have in Tudor times, the Yeoman Warders continue to protect the Tower, its inhabitants and its treasures, and are the latest subject in our series celebrating the Tower of London.
A Yeoman Warder takes pride of place on this fine gold coin, instantly recognisable in the distinctive State Dress uniform that has changed very little since Tudor times. The design also includes a plan of the walls of the Tower, which is split over the four Proof coins in the collection unifying their designs.
