Celebrate the Chinese Zodiac with the Year of the Pig
Were you born in the Year of the Pig?
1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019
The traits of people born in the Year of the Pig are gentleness, selflessness and loyalty as well as diligence, compassion and generosity.
The Royal Mint’s Shēngxiào Collection combines British minting craftsmanship with centuries-old Chinese traditions. Artist Harry Brockway has created the sixth design of the series, working with The Royal Mint’s Coin Design team to create a design which summarises the characteristics of people born in the Year of the Pig, depicting their generous and compassionate personalities with a feeling of home and loyalty.
We have celebrated the Chinese zodiac since 2014, releasing new additions to The Shēngxiào Collection every year. Each coin fuses British craftsmanship with ancient Chinese traditions, ensuring the heritage and history behind this practice is evident in each design. This year is a special moment in the lunar calendar as the pig appears only once every 12 years – meaning this is a unique opportunity to mark an important Chinese tradition.
