Early Milled Coins
Milled coins are those produced by a machine, rather than the traditional method of striking a metal blank between two dies (hammered coinage). While the concept of machine-produced coinage had been explored earlier, the widespread adoption of milled coins began in the 17th century. The advantage of milled coins is the uniform size and weight compared to hammered coins.
