Celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee took place throughout 1977 and we commemorated the occasion by issuing a Silver Jubilee crown. The obverse, featuring a design by Arnold Machin, bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II riding horseback and dressed in her uniform as the Colonel-in-Chief of the Grenadier Guards. The design was a tribute to the equestrian portrait used on the 1953 Coronation Crown, the first commemorative UK coin released during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.
