George III is the longest-reigning king in British history. His 59-year reign oversaw wars fought across continents, industrial and agricultural revolutions, and Britain further solidify its status as a world power. George III became the first king of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland as a united realm and was the last king of Britain's colonies in North America.
His reign also oversaw great changes to British coinage, including a massive recoinage in 1816 and the revival of The Sovereign in 1817. However, the ill health he experienced during the last decade of his reign, during which his son (who later became George IV) acted as Prince Regent from 1811, often overshadows his legacy.
This George III Two-Coin Set brings together a George III ‘Rose’ guinea, dated between 1761 and 1786, with a 2020 Proof Sovereign that features a special privy mark created to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George III’s death.
