Celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Winston Churchill with this set, which brings together a Brilliant Uncirculated medal, a 2024 UK £2 Brilliant Uncirculated coin and a 1965 Churchill crown. The leader of a coalition government during the Second World War, Sir Winston Churchill was one of the most influential political figures in British history. However, it was his younger years serving in the Queen’s 4th Hussars and working as a war correspondent that helped shape the views he held in later life.
The Churchill crown included in this set was struck to commemorate the death of Sir Winston Churchill in 1965, when he became the first person outside of the Royal Family to have both a state funeral and be honoured on a commemorative coin. The UK £2 coin features a reverse design depicting a young Churchill in his Queen’s 4th Hussars uniform and features the edge inscription ‘· PAVE THE WAY FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM’, taken from one of his many famous speeches. The Brilliant Uncirculated medal also features a portrait of the wartime leader that first appeared on the 1965 commemorative crown.
