Sir Winston Churchill is often best known as the leader of Britain’s coalition government during the Second World War. However, it was his experiences in his younger years that helped shape his views and influenced his politics in his later years. Towards the end of the nineteenth century, Churchill served in the Queen’s 4th Hussars and gained a lifelong love of writing from his work as a war correspondent.
This two-coin set brings together a 1965 Sovereign, dated with the year that Churchill passed away, and a 2024 UK £2 gold Proof coin designed by Natasha Seaward, a graphic designer at The Royal Mint. Featuring the edge inscription ‘· PAVE THE WAY FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM’ from one of Churchill’s many famous speeches, the £2 coin is not available to purchase individually. The gold Proof coin features red gold on the inside and yellow gold on the outside.
