This medal was from a significant time in history when England perceived a threat from a Jacobite-French alliance. On the reverse of the medallion, Queen Anne is depicted as the Greek goddess Athena throwing thunderbolts at the two-headed, four-armed serpentine monster said to represent James III (the Old Pretender) and Louis XIV of France.
