1764 gold Guinea from the reign of George III (1760-1820). The obverse features the second laureate head of George III facing right, surrounded by the Latin legend "GEORGIVS. III. DEI. GRATIA." (George the Third by the Grace of God). A toothed border encircles the rim on both sides.

The reverse displays a crowned quartered shield of arms, with the date 1764 split on either side of the crown. The legend "M.B.F.ET.H. REX. F.D.B. ET.L.D.S.R.I.A.T ET.E." encircles the shield, abbreviating the full Latin title which translates to "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick and Luneberg, High Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire."

Weighing 8.38 grams and struck in 22 carat gold (0.9167 fineness), this Guinea has been graded by NGC as AU58, currently the highest graded example at both major grading services. It exhibits toning with some lustre in the legends, along with minor surface marks and hairlines.

What makes this Guinea particularly noteworthy is its scarcity. The total gold output for 1764 was £843,153, significantly lower than later years of George III's reign. This coin is from a transitional period when the stop over the head disappeared, a feature omitted throughout the third and fourth head issues until 1786.

The provenance of this coin adds to its allure, having been part of the K. Frost collection sold at Glendining in 1984, and later the Erwin Warth Collection.

This 1764 Guinea represents a fascinating intersection of British history and numismatic artistry. Its rarity, high grade, and historical significance make it an invaluable addition to any serious collection of British coinage.
