The 1798 George III gold Guinea is a notable coin from the "Spade Guinea" series, which was minted between 1787 and 1799. This particular coin features the fifth laureate head of King George III on the obverse, facing right, with the Latin inscription "GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA," meaning "George III by the Grace of God".

The reverse of the coin displays a distinctive spade-shaped crowned quartered shield of arms, with the date 1798 below. The reverse legend, written in abbreviated Latin, reads "M.B.F. ET. H. REX. F.D. B.ET. L. D. S. R. I. A. T ET. E." When fully expanded, this translates to "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick and Luneberg, High Treasurer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire".

This 1798 Guinea has been graded by NGC as MS63+, indicating a high state of preservation with minimal wear and good eye appeal.

The 1798 mintage was particularly significant, representing the second-highest production of Spade Guineas during George III's reign. The total gold value minted that year amounted to £2,967,505, making it the seventh-highest annual production during his entire reign. This high mintage has contributed to a relatively good survival rate for this particular year's issue.

The Spade Guinea series, named for its distinctive reverse design resembling the ace of spades on playing cards, has become one of the most recognizable and popular iterations of the Guinea coin. These coins were widely circulated and played a crucial role in British commerce during the late 18th century.
