In the early part of the 20th Century, The Royal Mint branch in Ottawa began striking Gold Dollars that were never intended for circulation. They were struck specifically to bolster the Canadian Gold reserves and so sat in Canadian bank vaults for many years. Some may have been melted down over the years, but some have escaped the melting pot and are available for collectors.
Because they have been in storage since they were struck the coins are in fantastic condition and have been identified as part of the Canadian Gold reserves and graded MS 64 by PCGS.
