George III's 1817 gold proof Half-Sovereign is an exceptional coin. Engraved by Benedetto Pistrucci, it features a laureate head of George III facing right on the obverse, with the date 1817 below and the legend "GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA" surrounding it. The reverse, with an inverted die axis, displays a crowned shield of arms with a dot below, encircled by the inscription "REX FID: DEF: BRITANNIARUM".

This proof coin has been graded and slabbed by NGC as PF63 Ultra Cameo, making it the only example graded this fine at both NGC and PCGS. It exhibits some light hairlines but remains brilliant with a pleasant light tone, appearing practically as struck.

The Latin legend on the coin translates to "George III, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith," reflecting the monarch's titles and status.
