1887 Victoria Gold Five Pounds Jubilee Sovereign

Victoria (1837-1901), gold Five Pounds, 1887, features the Jubilee type crowned bust of Queen Victoria facing left, with J.E.B. initials on the truncation, representing engraver Joseph Edgar Boehm. The Latin legend reads VICTORIA D: G: BRITT: REG: F: D:, translating to "Victoria by the grace of God, Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith." The reverse depicts St. George and the dragon facing right, with the date in the exergue and B.P. initials to the upper right, for engraver Benedetto Pistrucci.

This coin weighs 40.03g and is part of a calendar year mintage of 53,844. It is toned with some light hairlines and retains much of its original mint lustre.

Encapsulated and graded by NGC as MS61, this coin showcases its striking tone and historical significance. The Jubilee coinage marked Queen Victoria's 50th year on the throne, featuring a new portrait by Joseph Edgar Boehm that was notably different from previous effigies.
