A Sovereign from the last year of Queen Victoria's reign
Queen Victoria died in 1901, making this one of the last coins struck during her reign. Just over 3 million Sovereigns were struck for circulation at The Royal Mint's former site at Tower Hill.
This Sovereign features the third effigy of Queen Victoria used on coinage. The new portrait was created by Thomas Brock RA; it was selected from six designs in a competition in 1891 and was first struck in 1893.
