What's On

Medal-Making Workshop

Children visiting The Royal Mint Experience over the bank holiday weekend can find their inner artist with a Jubilee Medal-Making Workshop. From 30 May to 31 May 2022, this 30-minute workshop will run four times a day. The artist behind each design will be entered into a competition from which seven winners – one for every decade of The Queen’s reign – will take home a Platinum Jubilee UK 50p Coin and Minty®, The Royal Mint’s official piggy bank. The workshop costs £5.00 and one free session is available with every tour ticket.

Jubilee-Themed Art Workshops

Get creative on 5 June 2022 at art classes hosted by local artist Beth Morris. Children aged 7 to 14 will learn how to create a mixed media image of Her Majesty The Queen, whilst adults can create a Platinum Jubilee stitched medal or brooch; all materials will be provided.

The children’s session will run from 11.30am to 1pm and costs £20.00 per child or £15.00 if purchased with a tour ticket. The adult session will run from 2pm to 4.30pm and costs £25.00 per adult or £20.00 if purchased with a tour ticket.

Coin Magic!

Visit The Royal Mint Experience on 2 June 2022 and enjoy being entertained with amazing magic for all ages. The award-winning magician Stuart Watkins will be putting on special coin-related magic shows and wowing people with close-up magic throughout the day. The 40-minute show will run twice a day and tickets cost £5.00.

Exhibition Trail and Activities

Over the bank holiday weekend, you can explore our Platinum Jubilee exhibition, which explores Queen Elizabeth II’s reign through coinage and reveals the stories of the coins marking this important milestone. There is also a trail to follow and extra activities just for this special weekend, including some jubilee-themed colouring.

Colouring

Strike your own 2022 Jubilee 50p

On 6 February 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British monarch to reach a Platinum Jubilee. To celebrate the occasion, we have created the first UK 50p coin celebrating a royal event.

To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday we’re bringing back the Platinum Jubilee 50p SYOC between 2 – 5 June, during your tour you’ll have the opportunity to strike your own Platinum Jubilee UK 50p Coin as a memento of this historic moment. The obverse of the coin will feature Jody Clark’s definitive coinage portrait of The Queen.

The Big Jubilee Lunch

Join us on Saturday, 4 June 2022 at 12pm or 1.30pm for the Big Jubilee Lunch, where you will be able to enjoy a buffet-style lunch indoors or al fresco. Enjoy a delicious range of cakes and pastries with family and friends, take part in games and celebrate the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday together.

We will also be streaming the Platinum Jubilee ‘Party at the Palace’ in our Education Room, where you can get comfortable on a beanbag to watch the star-studded event.
